On 25 November 2026 at 2 pm CET (Brussels time) we invite all ASCOLA Members to join us for the fourth ASCOLA NOEL – the November Online Event Live!
The theme this year is “Competitiveness, Competition, and Industrial Policy”.
We are honoured to have four speakers to share with us their perspectives.
Speakers:
Professor Oliver Budszinski (Technische Universität Ilmenau), Griet Jans (Belgian Competition Authority), Professor Yong Lim (Seoul National University), Professor Fiona Scott Morton (Yale School of Management). The discussion will be moderated by Annika Stöhr.
Against the backdrop of renewed industrial-policy activism, geopolitical tensions and growing concerns about Europe’s competitiveness, the panel will examine the relationship between competition, competitiveness and industrial policy. Are strong competition rules a prerequisite for productivity and innovation, or can they sometimes constrain the scale, investment and resilience needed to compete globally? When are industrial-policy interventions economically justified, and how can they be designed without protecting incumbents, distorting competition or triggering subsidy races?
Bringing together perspectives from Europe, the United States and Korea, the discussion will explore whether competition and industrial policy should be regarded as complements or as competing objectives – and what this means for the future direction of competition policy.
