More than 150 participants gather at Würzburg, Germany, from 4 July to 7 July 2024 for the 19th Annual Conference of ASCOLA, the Academic Society for Competition Law! We welcome all participants and are looking forward to a stellar conference with discussions on competition law and economics. Highlights include an Enforcers Panel, the first ASCOLA Concert, the Best Junior Paper Award and a panel with heads of ASCOLA’s Regional Chapters. May all participants have safe travels and great experiences in the ASCOLA family! Our profound thanks goes to Florian Bien and Björn Becker and their team for organising this event. 2020 ASCOLA Best Junior Paper Award

The 2020 ASCOLA Junior Best Paper Award went to Andrew McLean of University College London for his paper “A Financial Capitalism Perspective on Start-up Acquisitions”. The paper is accessible here: https://law.haifa.ac.il/index.php/en/ascola-award The award which has a small tradition already in ASCOLA was presented by Fabiana Di Porto and Rupprecht Podszun in the name of the jury. Scholars have to be below the age of 35 for entering this little competition at the ASCOLA Annual Conference.

2021 Conference in Porto – Call for Papers

ASCOLA plans to hold its next conference in Porto (Portugal), hopefully with the presence of many of our members if the situation allows us to. Our local host is Professor Sofia Pais with her colleagues and team at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. The conference is set for 1-3 July 2021. The Call for Papers 2021 is out – please check the document here with all the relevant deadlines and information! Originally, we had planned to hold the 2020 conference in Porto already, but switched to a virtual format due to the pandemic. We look forward to our next conference and encourage all scholars to send in their proposals!

The Ascola 2020 Virtual Conference

The 2020 Ascola Conference was held in a virtual format with nearly 100 talks and presentations within three days – it became an overwhelming success with hundreds of participants joining from around the world. Talks included presentations by the Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Margrethe Vestager, an economics expert panel with Steven Salop, Dennis Carlton and Dan Rubinfeld, a session for young academics on their future prospects, several book presentations and of course panels with many discussions on hot topics of antitrust and competition. The event was organised by the three members of our Executive Board and their teams, Michal Gal (Haifa), Peter Picht (Zurich) and Rupprecht Podszun (Düsseldorf). After a few weeks in which we enjoyed the positive memories of our successful virtual conference, it is now time to look forward again.
